Registering the Baby!

Now that he was finally here, and finally had a name we had to make Jack official!

So we took him to our local registry office. We had to book the appointment online and it was all very easy.

We made our way there and parked the car. We were slightly early and waited in the car for a few minutes before going to declare our son's name!

I asked his Daddy if he wanted to give him a middle name as we had agreed no middle names, due to long surname! He said he was sure that Jack would be ok. I then suggested the middle name of Oliver, it seemed appropriate for this baby bundle of loveliness to have his Father's name as a middle name. Jack Oliver. Daddy seemed happy with this and it made for a nice name!

We sat in the waiting room of the registry office and there was a wedding going on. So we sat quietly, minding our own business.

I suddenly smelt a rather unsavoury smell and an older woman and man walked in. She started very loudly telling the receptionist that she needed to register her son's birth but also the stillborn twin of her son's birth and death. I instantly felt devastated for her and it was very obvious that she had not come to terms with the death and was talking about it very casually. She sat down as she was told to and then told me the whole story about how twin 1 was born on her bathroom floor and didn't make it, while twin 2 was 1lb something fighting for his life in the NICU. She showed me pictures and told me how she has now given birth to 7 boys. This is when I knew she was not quite there!!! Hehe. She then asked to look at my baby, who was healthy, strong and sleeping soundly. Due to her unsanitary appearance and odour I reluctantly sat back so she could see the baby but I was screaming inside for her not to reach and touch him.  Thankfully she didn't and the registrar suddenly called us in!

We sat down and confined who we were, what we did and the date of our child's birth. She then asked the name that our child is to be known by. I kept quiet as I wasn't sure if we had decided on the middle name or not. (After 9 months of no middle names!!)

Oliver then replied to the lady, Jack Oliver.

So there we had it! We signed the necessary paperwork and made our way home.

I will never see that lady again, but I won't forget her and her tiny baby and her loss. It made me realise exactly how lucky we are!
