Awoken early by the need to pee (thanks baby!) I went to the loo to dutifully fill my pot with the morning urine sample. Unfortunately other ladies had left theirs in the loo on the floor (for god knows how long!) and it was disgusting. I can just remember heaving. Great. There were hairs in the sink and I just wanted to get out of there. I asked (again) for the hairs to be removed from the sink.
I took my urine sample back to my bed (unsure why others could not do the same!?) and soon after they came to check my blood pressure & baby heart rate. All fine. They asked if I had any pain/bleeding etc... The answer again was no.
They told me to go and get breakfast (you had to go to the kitchen & do it yourself!) so I did and then got dressed & ready to see Oliver. At 9am they opened the doors and he was allowed in (hooray!!!) and he sat down in the slightly more comfortable chair that I had requested for him before his arrival. I had a feeling it was going to be a long day!
Today's midwife was called Pauline and she was a senior midwife so I was happy with that! Already felt like a better day than yesterday. She came and introduced herself to me & told me that at midday she would be coming to remove the pessary and examine me. That examination would determine what would be happening next. So at half 9 me and Oliver made a break for it and went to costa in the hospital reception.

Thank heavens for Hot Chocolate!
Was back on the ward ready and waiting at midday and Pauline came along to do the examination. We got in position and anxiously waited for her findings. (I'd still had nothing! Not a twinge or ache!)
She removed the pessary and had noted that it wasn't very "high" up. Great I thought. She then said that she was about 2cm dilated and that she was going to do a stretch and sweep. Ok this part I did not enjoy. Not going to lie it hurt me and the pain was sudden and intense. She had a really good go at it and I was just breathing through the pain thinking oh my god. After that she wanted to monitor the baby again and for me to rest for an hour.

Watching the baby & contractions
She could see on the monitor that I was having some very small contractions but they weren't going anywhere! She wanted to "rest" my cervix for 6 hours so after monitoring I was free to go and do what I liked but had to be back at 6pm for another examination.
I remember thinking all I wanted to do at this point was go home and scrub myself from head to toe. The hair still had not been cleared from the sink. (I'd resorted to using toilets in the next bay!)
The next few hours passed quite quickly, was seen by my consultant on his ward round and then I decided to go and scrub the bathroom and yep I cleared the hair. Makes me sick thinking about it now. But I was finally able to use the loo near where I was staying!
6pm came and Pauline came to examine me. She said if she could feel my waters to break them then she would be able to send me to the delivery suite to do that. If she couldn't then she would insert a gel and the waiting game would begin again.
When she examined me she said I was still 2cm dilated but she could feel my waters bulging!!! She said she could break them so she would be booking me a bed on the delivery suite! My happiness turned into fear but no time for that! She said oh while I'm here I'm going to do another stretch and sweep. I forgot everything else and there was that pain again! I lay there a bit shell shocked waiting for a bed....

The last picture of me pregnant. 37 weeks, 5 days
... And boy did I wait! 10pm came around and Oliver was sent home. The midwife told me to go to bed, get some sleep and she would wake me if a bed was available. I heard another girl go into labour, then another so they obviously jumped the queue.
I went and got ready for bed. The same old story from the night before. The lights didn't go off until 1:30am! The interruption for blood pressure came at 2am and was given my wee pot for the morning.
I tried to get some sleep. Was hoping to meet my baby the very next day, this did not give me a restful sleep!
And so to bed.....
