Today was the day of my Consultant appointment.
I was sent to this appointment by my Midwife as my BMI had crept above 35. Having a BMI above 35 makes me a criminal in the pregnancy world. My BMI was somewhere around 36.
I arrived at this appointment early as always and my Mum came with me because hubby was at work and we didn't think it was worth him taking time off to come with me.
I was called in almost immediately by the health care assistant and she checked my paperwork, checked my blood pressure, urine and did my BMI (again!) Grrr. She then asked me to wait for the consultant in the waiting room next door.
The waiting room she put me in was exactly the waiting room I was in when I had my first scan all of those weeks ago!
Didn't have to wait long before the consultant called me through.
When I sat down he asked me why I was here. I told him that my midwife had referred me due to my BMI. He laughed and said so you've put on weight?? Then said so what you're pregnant. You're fine. Discharge to Midwife led care. I was happy with this but thought I'd better mention that the baby wasn't moving today and didn't move much yesterday.
When I told him this and my recent episodes he said ok this changes things. He said we need to do three things before I leave the hospital today.
1) Ultrasound scan
2) CTG (heartbeat) monitoring
3) He needs to see me before I go home.
So he sent me for the scan immediately. Luckily I was seen straight away and the scan was done. She said baby looked fine and the measurements were fine. Currently estimated weight was 6lb 9oz. She did mention that there was extra amniotic fluid which could be a problem.
I then was sent to the day assessment unit for the CTG monitoring and to see the consultant. In true Mum being with me style we got forgotten and I had to wait ages for the monitor.
Once I was on the monitor they made me hold the probes in place. It was not the best. I didn't really take a liking to the staff in this unit! But it was fine. At one point the baby's heart rate dropped and they called the registrar in but she didn't seem concerned. They did note that the baby was very sleepy and kept giving me water to try and wake it up!!
The consultant came along and popped into see me. He said he'd looked at my scan report and explained that the extra fluid was called Polyhydramnious which could mean many things but in my case was most likely nothing to worry about.
He went on to say that the baby was very sleepy at times and that basically I had 2 options.
1) attend the hospital every other day for monitoring.
2) have the baby induced.
He gave me the choice so I chose option 1. Although I desperately wanted to they the baby out! He said fine and walked away. As he left my Mum said why did you choose option 1?! He wanted you to say to get the baby out! So I asked her to call him back and I told him I really wanted option 2. He perked up and seemed a lot happier! He then said that it would be better as we would be able to see the baby and poke it to make sure it was ok! But if it stayed inside me then only I could tell what was going on.

He then told the midwife to disconnect me from the machines and book me for induction.
She did and told me to come back the next day at 10:30am.
Oh my god... The next day!!!
I asked her if I would be given something then sent home and she said no. Won't be going home until I have a baby.
By now it was gone 7pm and we had been in the hospital for hours. We made our way home and went to Tesco to get some last minute hospital supplies. I then called my husband to tell him all of the above and prepare him for the fact that this baby was coming soon!!!!!
When we got home we went out for dinner. One last meal out for a while.
Last minute packing. And so to bed.
