Relaxation & Breathing Class

Relaxation and Breathing Class was never something I thought I'd find myself going to, but when my midwife said I should go and especially if I am considering a home birth I decided I should try it. She had asked us to bring a pillow and a partner. I knew my husband was not keen and I excused him from this class, that was until 3 mins before I had to leave and begged him to come with me. (I'd spoken to a few girls earlier in the day at aquanatal and all of their partners were coming!)

So when we arrived at the community centre I immediately saw someone from the earlier class and we got chatting again. We signed the register and then waited for the session to start. We had to sit in groups and talk to each other but I was split up from the girl I had been speaking to. We then had to introduce ourselves to the room and say how pregnant we were.

After that awkwardness was done we were led into a dark room with sofas, chairs and bean bags. We had to sit in a big circle and she started talking about labour etc... re-capping on what we have learned at the antenatal classes.

She then got us in positions for getting the baby in a good position for birth, on hands and knees etc... and then it got serious.

She got us in all kinds of positions for labour! She had our partners massaging our backs, hands, shoulders (which was LOVELY! as my back has been starting to ache!) and talked them through great techniques on how to massage effectively.

She then did a few breathing techniques which was really useful to know, and gave us some hints and tips for relaxation, which was nice.

While we were doing that the baby was going crazy! It was really sweet feeling the rolls and kicks in my belly. I heart our baby!

I am glad we went to this class, it will definitely keep the midwife happy!

Next stop: She's coming to our house on May 11th for my antenatal appointment (37 week check) and to discuss birthing options.
