So today I went for my 28 week midwife check up.
Appointment at 9:15am before work! Got up nice and early to do my sample and have breakfast before my appointment. You never know how long she will take! Knowing I wasn't the first is always scary! Also had a 9:10am appointment with the Nurse for a whooping cough immunisation!
Booked in for both appointments and was seen almost immediately by the nurse. Very quick and easy jab and it was done. :-) back to the waiting room to get comfy.
9:17am was called in.... Shock Horror!!!!
My usual midwife was off on leave so it was my alternative midwife. She apologised for keeping me waiting... I asked her if she was kidding, then she told me that she hates even running one minute behind. I told her I was ready for the long haul wait and she said that it must be awful.
We went to the room and there were 2 assistants there this time. I handed over my sample and she dipped it, all was fine and dandy. Then she took my blood pressure, which was also fine. She then asked me to hop up on the couch so I did. She took my 28 week bloods as she referred to them and got them first time. (My bruise has only just gone from the Glucose tests!).
After that she examined my belly and did the doppler. Baby's heart rate was 135-140. It kept wiggling and kicking the midwife away and all seems well. She also said I looked like I have done well with my weight and don't look like I have gained a lot (THANK GOD she didn't weigh me!). She measured my bump and it measured at 30cm. I was a little freaked out by this as they had tried to measure at my previous appointment and it was 21cm or 23cm which would have meant it was small but now it was measuring big. OK it should have been 28cm + or - 2cm so 30cm is ok, but of course I freaked out and said OMG I hope the baby is not big. She said it was the size of my uterus not the size of my baby and that it could be fluid etc... She told me not to worry!
I got the result back from my fasting glucose which was perfect and showed no evidence of Gestational Diabetes so I was very happy about that.
The midwife raised no concerns and asked me about baby's movements. I said I think it was moving fine and she told me if I have any worries then I should call the delivery suite. That scared me slightly! But fingers crossed no problems will arise.
Next appointment is in 3 weeks on the 1st April!
