Dancing the night away
So, I am going to stay on the topic of Country and Western here and go on to talk about my line dancing experience.
Back in 2008 when I was back at Sioux City – and I was a bit… larger… everyone began line dancing. Now, last time I went it was July and it was very busy and I would have blended in nicely with the crowd of line dancers. But, being the wallflower I was, I refused to join in, even though each and every bone of my body was aching to!
So I promised myself, this time would be different. We were all in the “Saloon” and everyone was dancing along to the country hits and I was a wallflower planted on the wall as per usual. The singer kept picking on people in the crowd and I shrunk further and further back into the wall. Yes, even though I am this new changed person, I could not do it. The dancing came to the end and then the cowboys put on a big show where they demonstrated lasso and knife throwing. It was really good. I felt a little disappointed in myself. I mean, I wanted to dance, I wanted to get over myself and do it! But I didn’t.
Anyway, after the show was done, the cowboys announced that there would be more dancing in the saloon! So back to the saloon we went and the dancing began. Now even though I had sat for an hour and regretted not dancing, all the will in the world was pulling me back to the wall. I just could not get myself out there! (To make matters worse the local celebrities from another show in Gran Canaria were on a night out there and they picked up the dance moves and did them perfectly just like that!)
However, the turning point came when Billy Ray Cyrus’ Achy Breaky Heart started playing! This was my chance to dance, to one of my favourite country & western songs in my favourite place on a perfect night. So finally I did!
Here is the photo to prove it! Yes – I am even smiling! My boyfriend also videoed it and to my surprise I kept up in time and I didn’t look that bad!
Next time… Dolphin blog ;-)
