Ok,
So can I just begin this blog by saying... How on earth is it June already!? I have been looking forward to June because it is full of events for me... I can't believe it is here already! WoopWoop!
Anyway the Hatfield Broak Oak 10k race day came very fast and I had kept up my training schedule - so I was much more prepared than I was for the Watford 10k! However, about 6 days before the race, I realised that it was not in Hatfield... that it was actually in Essex! This meant that all of my planned spectators were no longer interested in coming as it was a bit of a drive away! My friend Gill was still doing it with me and so was my Uncle which was nice! Until my Uncle got injured in training and has been limping ever since :-(
So... the night before the race I managed to convince my fiancé to drive me & my friend to the race & convinced my sis in law to be to get up early and come and watch! That night I didn't get to bed until late & the rain woke me at 2am battering my windows. It was at that moment that I decided not to compete.
The next morning I woke up feeling groggy & generally yuk! Text Gill to see if she really wanted to do it & she did so I wasn't able to quit! I packed a bag, prepared to get soaked and grabbed a banana for afters.
When we arrived in the village we parked easily, found where we needed to be and stood there shivering until it was time to start! At 11am the gun went off and away we went. My friend sped ahead but this time I knew to keep to my steady pace. I went off too fast last time and suffered for it at the half way point. So I kept it nice and steady the whole way round. The sun even broke through the clouds and I settled into a nice run.
I was so proud of myself for not having any break downs, for not crying, for not feeling sick and most of all for not stopping!!!!!! I didn't break into a walk once. Not even a teeny tiny second! Granted I kept a nice slow running pace, but not one bit of walking (even up the hills!!!!!) I was chuffed with myself. I beat my time from Watford by 5mins with a finishing time of 1hour and 11mins. So I was happy with this.
The only gutting moment of the whole day was... I didn't get a medal!!! For some reason they think it is nicer to give you a finishers t-shirt! I felt a little cheated as I do like a medal for a sense of achievement but I still know that this was an achievement for me!
Next up: Race For Life. I am gonna SMASH this one... my time last year was 44min! Going to aim for 34min.....
