Running Club

Today I went to a "Running Club"

It is called Running Sisters and they have several groups across the country. Tonight I went along with my Auntie - who is a pro runner and fitness enthusiast! She encouraged me to go along as there are three groups - the fast runners (which she goes in), the medium runners and the slow runners.

Of course my first time I intended to go with the slow runners. All of you regular readers will know that I still after 6 months of running can not bring myself to run outside of my garden! Up and down the garden path is my favourite run of all! It is about time I challenge myself more - hills & different terrain etc... so that I can prepare for all of the 10k races I intend to do next year.

When we arrived there was one other person there. Eventually some others arrived and we all set off for our run. There was no group segregation, everyone just kind of set off and it was all very informal and disorganised. (but in a nice way!).

My Auntie and her friend were right at the front - there were only 8 of us in the end! I kept a pace just behind her and every time we got to the end of a road or traffic lights etc... we stopped and waited for the others. (this is where the sisters come into it - like girls looking out for each other!). It was a little frustrating waiting for the others, as you do lose your momentum, but I'd appreciate them waiting for me if I needed.

Anyway after 15mins the leader felt she was injured and went home. So then there were 7. We decided to go a longer route and this involved HILLS! Oh my god the hills. I have never ran up a hill before - and today I did!!!! I was so pleased. Some of the other ladies stopped but I ran all the way to the top. I was so happy.

Another 2 of the ladies dropped back after this and made the slow group, and they took a shorter route. Then there were 5. We ran all the way back to where we started and on the way we passed another of the ladies houses - she ducked out and went home! So then there were 4.

We got back to the start point and hurrah! I'd done it!
Luckily I had the GPS in my pocket and it tracked my route. It informed me that we had run 2.8miles in 38mins. Not bad going. Everyone congratulated me and said I had done really well for my first time. I don't know if I will be going back as it runs on certain days and I do shift work - but that is the beauty of it - you can go 3 x a week, or you can go 3 x a year - it doesn't matter.

Watch this space ;-)
