Scan day arrived!!!! I was so excited to see our baby again! Sadly this time we did not take the whole day off work, but luckily we had a 9:00am scan appointment. So I got up, had breakfast, got ready for work and dutifully drank the pint and a half of water that is required of me. It was so hard not to go to the toilet before leaving the house which is what I usually do! We again, left super early as it was unpredictable if we would get stuck in traffic or be able to park - which of course both were fine that day! So we arrived at the hospital about 50mins early!
We sat in the car for a bit, then made our way to Women's health. Even that was not so bad this time as we knew where we were headed. Got to the desk, booked in and they asked us to take a seat. This time it was busier and even at that time the waiting room was bustling. We waited and waited and I thought my bladder was about to burst. It was my own fault for being so early!
When we got called in it was a different sonographer that we had. She asked me to lay on the couch and it wasn't as snuggly and warm as last time... and the jelly was cold!!! She said we would be there a while as she was going to look at baby in depth. We stuck to our guns and told her that we didn't want to know the sex of the baby. She smiled and said that fine and that she wouldn't look. She did say that she had to do thigh measurements of the baby and that when she got there she would ask us to look away just in case anything obvious was there.
Within seconds we could see our baby on the screen. Could see how much they had grown since the last scan. It was amazing. I was so happy when I saw that little heartbeat and the little wiggles it was doing. She did lots of measuring and lots of different views. I asked her to take some pictures along the way and told her that I had enough money for 4 photos. She said she would do her best.
The scan was all looking fine, baby had a habit of putting it's hands over it's face whenever she tried to look at that but otherwise behaved a lot better than last time. There was one moment when she couldn't get a measurement that she needed but I then asked, no, begged her to let me go and pee. So she did let me (thank goodness) wasn't sure I was going to make it!
When I returned and was more comfy on the bed being scanned she managed to do everything she needed to do. Oliver and I were fascinated at the detail of the scan, particularly when she zoomed in on the heart and you could see the valves moving. It was amazing. Yet it still doesn't feel like that's all going on inside me.
The scan took about 40mins in total and she had looked at baby up and down and measured and did everything she needed to do. We have a perfectly healthy baby growing in there! Size was correct for dates and she was happy with everything. Which means I was happy. She got some lovely photos for us and we went off to work. The next time we will see baby now is going to be on their birthday! No more scans for me - placenta is posterior which is fine. It is going to be a long few months now but will be able to hear heartbeat at the next midwife appointment so that is something to look forward to!
Here are the pictures.... I am in LOVE.
