I am pregnant!
Writing this down is an incredible thing for me as I never thought that I would be saying that I am pregnant! I cant even quite believe it myself but it is true!
Although we made the decision to start trying for a baby, I think we were both very shocked that it has happened on the first try! However we are both very happy and excited and know that we are incredibly lucky.
My period was due on Saturday 27th September. Usually like clockwork I was hoping that it would not arrive. Although I knew this was a possibility and I had everything crossed that it would not come, I was convinced it was on it's way! I was in a show that day and was playing Mary Poppins. I had tummy cramps all day and was as moody as I usually am at that wonderful time of the month. In fact I was just plain mean!
All day I was expecting my monthly visitor but even by showtime that evening there was nothing to report. I can remember thinking wow this could actually be happening! But I didn't let myself get excited.
On with the show and the cramps continued, but still no sign of it. I called my husband and told him I think we needed to buy a test!
Decided to buy the Clearblue Digital as it gave a clear and concise answer. Didn't test that night as I decided it would be best to use the first wee of the day. (Announcement made and I'm already blogging about periods and peeing. Great!)
Of course I woke up at silly o clock the next morning absolutely desperate for a wee. 04:45am to be precise. I went to the toilet and the test was there waiting for me. Oh well, here goes! I peed on the stick and anxiously waited for the result. Ok, so I didn't have to wait long at all! Up it popped :-)
There it was in black and white. Pregnant. Woah. I crawled back into bed and lay down and attempted to go back to sleep. Of course I couldn't. I lay there rolling over, trying to get comfy and of course was so unsettled I woke my husband up. He knew what I'd been up and a just said... "Well?" I giggled, it was positive! He then giggled too and I said go back to sleep. We both tried to go back to sleep but it was quite impossible. I went downstairs and stared at the positive test some more. In those early hours I just lay on the sofa trying to believe what had just happened! I think I was more surprised that I was fertile than anything else!!! In my hazy daze I decided I needed to get in my car and drive up to my Mum's and tell her.
That hour long drive was so long! I wasn't entirely awake as I was still tired from the lack of good sleep and when I arrived she was pottering around so unsuspecting. She made me a coffee and we went to the front room. Within minutes I'd whipped the test out waved it in front of her and started crying!!! She was totally shocked and didn't really know what to say! She was very happy and excited. Then.... I swore her to secrecy!!! (After all I was only 4 weeks pregnant or so.... I probably shouldn't have even been telling her!)
Later that day when I got home we decided that it would be only fair to go and tell Oliver's Mum too. So we went round there and sat chatting for a bit. Oliver is obviously not as forthcoming as me at telling Mum and he wanted me to do it. I don't know why but I couldn't do it either and we danced around the subject for 3 whole hours before I blurted it out. She took it totally differently from my Mum, she totally expected it!!! We then swore her to secrecy too! Not ready for the rest of the world to find out just yet... after all... have to make it to 12 weeks first!
And So It Begins....
