Couch to 5k Challenge!

So today I decided to start the Couch to 5k challenge (C25K)!!!

This is a system designed to get "just about anyone" to be able to run 5k in 30mins in 9 weeks!

What have I got to lose? (apart from weight)!

So today after a rubbish nights sleep (more than likely due to anxiety and worry with a dash of excitement about beginning this challenge) I did Day 10 of Level 3 of the Shred and instead of jumping straight into the shower I went for Week 1, Day 1 of the C25K challenge.

I tried. I tried to be brave and venture outside, in public, on view. But whilst I was doing the Shred I talked myself out of it completely. Then I decided that I really do want to do this challenge so I made a little pact with myself that it would be okay to do it in my garden.

Although some people could see me from their windows, and I must have looked very odd, I went up and down my garden path!

Day one consists of a five minute brisk walk to warm up, followed by 60 seconds of jogging and then 90 seconds of walking. You do 8 jogs in total and 8 walks over a 20 minute period and then 5 mins walking to cool down. I have the iPhone app to help me which tells me (over my own music) when to run, walk and cool down! So that was good.

I managed to keep up with it all and do what he was telling me! I could feel the incline of the garden path very much and by the end of it my lungs were burning with the amount of fresh air that was going in them! My legs ached and I don't know why I felt just like a contestant on the Biggest Loser! :-) I wish!

Anyway, I have now signed up to do the Race For Life on June 19th. This gives me exactly 10 weeks and 5 days to prepare! According to the program this should not be a problem and I should be all ready to run the 5k!

I am also doing a walk on June 11th which is a half marathon for a local hospice. This is starting at midnight and running is not allowed, so hopefully I shall be a bit more prepared for this too!

Hoping to be in the 13's for these events!!! Fingers Crossed. Stay tuned for updates on the C25K challenge! - Did I mention I hate running!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
