British 10K London Run 2012!

Today I ran in the British 10K London Run!

My day started off at 6:30am, I was absolutely exhausted as we had a busy day yesterday but I dragged myself out of bed and rushed to the window to see if the weather had been kind to all of the people running today. It had not! Skies were grey, ground was wet and it was showing no sign of stopping the constant dribble of rain.

Got into London and it was still miserable! Went to find the baggage bay so I could find where to go and get ready to race! Was gutted to find that the baggage bay had no protection from the rain, but what can you do! So I put my bag away, said goodbye to my fiancĂ© and made my way to the start line!

Off to find the start line!

So this is me, making my way to the start line! It was a 1.5km walk to the start line and I wanted to be fairly near the beginning so I got there early. By the time I reached the block of people standing and waiting, the rain was in full force and we got soaked just standing there waiting to be allowed to walk to the start line!!!

Well we waited and waited and eventually it all got going! Reggie Yates got the music going, a brass band then played some music, the deputy Lord Mayor did a speech (which I didn't hear a word of because the microphone didn't work!) and then Heather Small performed "Proud" which was the theme tune to the Biggest Loser, so made me feel well, Proud... took a moment then to realise exactly what I have achieved!!!

Me after finishing, with my medal!
The race started (a little late) but off we went. 1km came along so fast! It was actually a really good run. I was so pleased with myself as I didn't stop and walk once, I kept my usual pace and was very focused. At 5km I checked my watch and was at 34min. Not bad time as my PB on land is 33.07. I kept going and things got a little tougher at 6km. Then there was an ambulance drama and a bit more rain. I didn't see the markers for 7km and 8km so I was getting rather concerned as I was wondering how far I'd come and thought I was doing really badly, but all of a sudden I saw 9km marker and all was good again! Off I went for the finish. I managed to do it in 1hr 12min 25sec. Was quite pleased with this as went off slowly due to the amount of people running. Everyone was treading on everyone and people constantly pushing past people and some people walked really early on so you had to dodge them!

Commemorative t-shirt

Passed the finish line, got my medal & was super duper uber happy! Then I went to find my fiancĂ©. We then went for a lovely meal in Nando's. It was certainly well earned as I racked up 21pp doing my run!

I was given a really nice commemorative t-shirt as part of the package, so that was good! I wore it to a family do just after I had popped home, showered and napped!

It was all in all a great day! I felt so proud of myself and so glad that I did it. Definitely looking forward to next year!
